September 16, 1978 William Hendrick “Bill” Foster, Negro League pitcher, died.
Foster was born June 12, 1930 in Calvert, Texas. He pitched for various teams in the Negro League from 1923 to 1936 and had a career record of 132 wins and 62 losses.
From 1960 to 1977, Foster was Dean of Men and the baseball coach at his alma mater, Alcorn Agricultural and Mechanical College. Foster was posthumously inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1996
